Bridgestone Bandag manufactures, markets and sells medium and heavy-duty truck tires for the original equipment and replacement markets in North America. Bridgestone, Firestone and Dayton brand truck tires are available through more than 2,500 dealers and truckstops — more places than any other brands. In addition, Bandag manufactures retreading materials and equipment for its dealer network, which produces and markets retreaded tires and provides tire management services at more than 1,600 locations in North America. Most of the nation’s largest fleets rely on Bridgestone or Firestone commercial tires and Bandag retreads for superior fuel economy, long tread life and low cost per mile. The Bandag manufacturing plant in Griffin, Georgia is located 40 miles south of Atlanta and was established in 1976.

Position Summary

The Supervisor I is responsible for the leadership of the plant teams in the manufacturing environment, to include the continuous improvement of assigned plant processes/department, short-term planning/execution, achievement of plant accountabilities and key performance indicators (KPI's).


  1. Collaborate with plant leadership teams to ensure alignment with strategic intentions, in an effort to ensure a safe work environment, environmental conformance/compliance, cost management, while providing superior quality products and services to continually improve customer satisfaction managed through a systematic approach.

  2. Lead team performance and provide feedback to hourly teammates in the major areas of accountability, to include safety, quality, environment, people, cost and productivity.

  3. Monitor and communicate results of department key performance indicators to ensure plant and organizational long-term success. Provide day-to-day leadership and direction for the hourly teams.

  4. Develop and launch leaders, utilizing the talent management system to ensure bench strength and growth within the plant.

  5. Provide a positive teammate relationship environment for plant teammates.

  6. Benchmark, monitor and implement best practices across manufacturing plants’ processes and equipment, both internal and external, for continuous improvement of operational excellence in the department and the plant.

  7. Align and inspire teammate participation in all team related activities, to include self-directed work teams, kaizen teams, safety teams, subcore process teams, etc.

  8. Promote positive impacts of corporate citizenship and sustain brand image by staying informed of community and governmental activities, to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

  9. Manage continuous improvement activities, utilizing Standards Driven Process and 5S.

  10. Lead and/manage multiple departments and/or processes.

  11. Collaborate with other plants and corporate teams to ensure alignment to strategic intentions in order to meet and/or exceed customer expectations.

  12. Execute plant strategic intentions that impact the local facility within the area of responsibility for the position.

  13. Ensure line driven safety goals and objectives are achieved, as defined by division safety deployment letter.

  14. Manage allocated resources to meet the plant objectives throughout the facility, while maintaining alignment with corporate policies and procedures.

  15. Responsible for Standard Based Improvement activities and deliverables.

  16. Work interdependently with other departments to ensure internal and external customer process deliverables/expectations are met or exceeded.

  17. Develop, implement, and maintain process standards and guidelines for plant expectations of key process KPI’s.

  18. Maintain compliance of local and corporate policies that define standards and guidelines for the facility.

  19. Support the management of $55 M in fixed assets / $14 -18 M in finished goods inventory / $72 M in raw materials / $24 M in operating budget / with annual production value of $200 M

  20. Identify and recommend capital expenditures.


  • Requires Bachelor Degree in Business, Engineering or relevant concentration, plus a minimum of 0-3 years work experience.

  • Ideal candidate has:

  • Working knowledge of systematic tools, including but not limited to, SBI, Six Sigma, Lean, 5S, LDS, FTA, Kaizen, and SDP.

  • Manufacturing experience in production supervision, environmental conformance/compliance, quality, and maintenance.
