Firestone Industrial Products (FSIP) Company was established in 1936. We are the world's Number One air spring (called Airide) for light vehicles, buses, heavy duty trucks and trailers, rail cars and industrial applications.

Position Summary

  • Supervise the assigned shift, leading the team to meet the metric goals that drives financial success in the facility, insuring that all resources (human, equipment, supplies, etc.)are best utilized to meet the requirements of the Company.

  • Accomplishes production objectives by orienting, training, assigning, coaching and communicating job expectations.

  • Creating an environment of delivering results, meeting internal and external customer's expectations and maintaining positive teammate relations during day-to-day operation.

  • Motivates and encourages at the indivudual and team levels to ensure set productivity targets are met.

  • Improves production operations through the use of lean enterprise practices. Continuously support the Bridgestone/Firestone culture initiatives Rules of the Road and Bridgestone Essence.


A. Safety and Housekeeping (20%)

  1. Instruct teammates in proper safety and 5S methods. Maintain proper equipment and safety guards in place.

  2. Work with immediate department manager, plant engineering, plant safety and medical departments, and takes initiative in providing for safety of teammates.

  3. Weekly safety meetings, or safety talks, with teammates.

  4. Maintain an orderly department to minimize accidents.

  5. Responsible to ensure compliance with plant environmental operational controls and work procedures, and all teammates in their departments receive appropriate training, and report any equipment malfunction to ensure efficient plant operation in order to accomplish facility objectives and targets.

  6. Perform LPAs on time and identify root causes for non-compliances and/or through use of fault tree analysis.

B. Production (30%)

  1. Works closely with production schedulers.

  2. Check daily materials supply, consult with other departments.

  3. Inspect equipment daily to ensure continuous and safe operation.

  4. Determine what action is necessary with respect to mechanical breakdowns. Consult with department manager, plant engineering, and scheduling.

  5. Monitor output of teams and individual teammates as compared to predetermined ticket goal as well as individual production goals, manage personal time of teammates (breaks, lunches).

  6. Leave communication letter for following shift and review with incoming Supervisor/Team Leader.

  7. Check production and complete shift reports assuring accuracy necessary for recording production

C. Premier Place to Work (15%)

  1. Instruct, coach, train and guide new teammates.

  2. Lead, coach, and develop Team Leaders into becoming future potential supervisors and into becoming true owners of their business.

  3. Monitor teams (projects, meetings, etc.) to insure financially successful results. Act as facilitator in motivating teams and their cohesive results.

  4. Assign work to teams to meet scheduled production requirements.

  5. Review teammate's performance and make suggestions for improving.

  6. Monitor and train teammates in correct performance of their assignments.

  7. Maintain good communications regarding requirements, changes, etc.

  8. Maintain adequate records (attendance, job performance, etc.) and work closely with HR through the progressive discipline process.

  9. Work closely with HR on interpreting company policies and procedures for teammates to ensure consistency.

  10. Exemplifies at the highest level and lead through demonstrating Rules of the Road behavioral norms.

D. Quality (30%)

  1. Review new and revised specifications.

  2. Check work ability and physical characteristics of materials in process.

  3. Check for poor workmanship in all operations and take corrective steps as necessary.

  4. Control waste and scrap to meet at or under budget requirements. Conduct root cause analysis to continue improving metrics.

  5. Work with Process Control, QA and Plant Engineering to ensure product meets the Boss' Expectations.

E. Cost (5%)

  1. Analyze and work to meet machine/production schedules and teams/associates assignments to obtain maximum efficiency and productivity.

  2. Work with immediate manager, plant engineering and technical services with respect to changes or alterations of equipment.

  3. Verify inventory against shop floor reporting systems. Insure that work-in-process is accurately reported and controlled to system levels.
